detector with PIC catheter Zortran The Lucent Zortran technology is shown here designed into a hand-held device for displaying the location and orientation of the distal tip of a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). Zortran is a sensor based system used to determine the precise three dimensional position and orientation of small magnets within medical devices (for example, PICCs and central venous catheters). Its proprietary software employs sophisticated algorithms to help clinicians locate and navigate medical devices without using X-ray or other more cumbersome localization methods. Existing medical products require only the addition of a small permanent magnet to allow tracking by a Zortran detector.

Zortran The Zortran detector shown above displays the location of the indwelling device, relative to the Zortran display, as an icon on a backlit LCD. Location, orientation, and motion of indwelling device can be displayed real-time on the hand-held battery operated detector. This Zortran detector also has a data port and can deliver real-time location and tracking information to an external computer.

catheter placement tracking system Zortran Lucent's magnet tracking technology can display both the path taken and current location of a magnet-tipped catheter or other indwelling device during its insertion, and overlay this path against anatomical landmarks that were predetermined via radiographic or other imaging modality. - Zortan 510(k) K000997 cleared by FDA on 9/7/2000 - |
