nasogastric feeding tube locator TubeSite The Lucent TubeSite System is an easy to use, handheld, bedside locator for magnet-tipped nasogastric (NG) feeding tubes. As the NG tube is inserted into the patient, or during subsequent reconfirmation of correct tube positioning, the TubeSite hand-held detector is placed over the patient’s abdomen. The TubeSite displays an icon representing the location of the NG tube tip inside the patient. Proper placement of the tube tip can be confirmed by determining that the tip is below the diaphragm. Other locations would suggest either mis-insertion into the lungs or trachea, or an incomplete insertion down the esophagus.

a nasogastric feeding tube, with weight/magnet chamber TubeSite Nasogastric (NG) feeding tubes are flexible polymer tubes inserted through the nose or mouth to sites in the gastrointestinal tract, to provide medications and nutrients to patients who cannot eat for themselves. Patients may require NG feeding for extended periods in the hospital, at home, or in a nursing home. Conditions for which NG feeding may be prescribed range from gastrointestinal disorders to trauma, cancer, surgical recovery, and organ failure. NG tubes can be improperly inserted into the lungs, trachea, or esophagus. Even after a successful insertion, tubes are known to become malpositioned due to patient movement or tugging at the device. Complications include insufficient delivery of nutrients and pneumonia and often result in extended hospital stays. In some instances, improper tube positioning can result in death.

charging base TubeSite The Lucent TubeSite System includes a charging base.

cadaver study verification X-rays TubeSite A cadaver study was performed to assess the accuracy of the TubeSite location system. The cadaver study radiographs above, show the correlation between TubeSite's NG tube-tip icon (marked with a radio-opaque disc) and the actual NG tube location. - TubeSite devices have not been cleared by FDA. - |
