Overview

Lucent Medical Systems was established in January 1994 to develop and commercialize a  technology for non-radiographic determination of position, orientation and motion of devices inserted in the body.  Lucent's locating and tracking technology is based upon proprietary hardware and software for sensing and analyzing static magnetic fields.  This technology can be applied to a variety of medical products including catheters, feeding tubes, endotracheal tubes, and surgical tools, which are commonly used in hospitals, physicians' offices, nursing homes and home care settings.

Objective: A New Method for Medical Device Imaging

Lucent's technology requires only the addition of a small permanent magnet to an existing medical product to make it locatable by a Lucent detector.  The ability to locate and track an inserted medical device offers the potential benefits of improved patient care, cost and time savings to health care providers, application of existing procedures to additional patient populations, and the development of new procedures.
